In the past, the only option teens and adults had to straighten their smiles was traditional metal wire braces. Traditional braces can be bulky and distract from your smile.
With today’s dental technology that Invisalign offers, you have another option, making it unnoticeable — invisible braces. This advanced orthodontic treatment straightens and aligns your teeth using a series of removable clear aligners.
The aligners for invisible braces are made of a very special plastic material that was developed over more than ten years. It has special characteristics capable to move your teeth. It is also safe to use by allergic individuals, pregnant individuals and is free of allergens and gluten.
At Marconi Dental Group, as a provider of Invisalign for our invisible braces, we can deliver this modern technology that has been backed by the most research and development of all clear aligner therapies to date yet.
Marconi Dental Group uses Invisalign to improve many alignment issues, such as:
- Deep bite
- Misaligned teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Spacing problems
- Leveling and angulation
Invisible braces also correct teeth that are crowded, crooked, or overlapping.
What is the treatment process Like?
Before fabrication of Invisalign aligners, our team at Marconi Dental Group review your dental records. We discuss your goals and perform an oral exam. We might also take digital X-rays to get a better look at your jaw.
If we determine that alignment can benefit you, the next step is to take digital photos and a laser scan of your mouth and teeth using an advanced oral scanner. This scan gets uploaded into a special computer program. With this program we virtually plan each individual tooth movement that will take place, over time, with a series of custom aligners. The aligners are then fabricated by Align Technologies and shipped back to us ready for delivery.
During Invisalign treatment, you will receive a series of aligner pairs. At your initial delivery visit, we also bond small tooth colored attachments on selected teeth. They are unnoticeable and serve a very important role with tooth movement. You will then visit our office every 12 weeks for our team to check your progress. At these appointments, you’ll also receive your next series of aligners. Each new pair places different pressure on your teeth to move them into the final corrected position.
Treatment duration depends on unique factors based on your oral health, age, and the alignment issues that need to be addressed. It also is dependent on how well you follow your Invisalign treatment plan. Generally, most people achieve their dream smile in 8-12 months.
To encourage optimal results, a total of 22 hour wear per day is needed and taking them out non longer than 20 min at a time. Only remove them to brush and floss your teeth after eating, while it can be left in place while drinking and eating soft foods and snacks.
An advantage that our patients love is the discrete nature of Invisalign. When wearing your aligners, nobody will even know you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. That makes invisible braces the perfect treatment for busy professionals who are always in meetings or teens who might be self-conscious.
Another thing that people love about invisible braces is that there are no food restrictions. With traditional metal braces, you can’t eat anything hard or sticky as it could break or loosen the brackets. When this happens, it slows the treatment process until the bracket can be reattached. With Invisalign, you just pop out your clear trays before eating, set you timer for 20min and put them back in after you are finished.
The ability to take them out makes oral hygiene easy, unlike traditional braces that can lead to cavities due to the difficulty to clean your teeth properly.
Research has shown that invisible braces Invisalign does not cause damage to your dental roots unlike traditional braces that places heavy forces on the roots and can cause root resorption.
Treatment with Invisalign is not painful at all. You won’t experience tooth ache, cuts in your cheek or sore spots in your mouth like with traditional metal braces.
Because the clear aligners are smooth, they don’t irritate your mouth. With the two week wear protocol for each pair of aligners, you will not experience dental ache or pressure on your teeth.
You need to keep your aligners in optimal condition. To do that, prevent the buildup of food and plaque by rinsing them in cool tap water multiple after eating or drinking and also make sure that you rinsed your mouth with a sip of water. Do not use hot water. Before going to bed, brush your invisible braces with a soft tooth brush and soap before you put them back in.
Invisible braces can treat any non surgical case of malocclusion compared to traditional braces. That said, there are some situations where traditional braces or any other type of orthodontics will need surgery for significant jaw abnormalities. After your consultation and X-rays, our team can let you know if Invisalign is the best option for you.
It is important to keep wearing the trays in your mouth for the duration of your treatment at least 22 hours a day. If you don’t think that will be possible or you are forgetful, traditional braces might be the only option.
